

Charles R. Young, age 83 of Portland passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Maine Medical Center. On Friday January 22 following a brief illness. Charlie was born at home in So. Portland on August 16, 1932, and at the age of 12 his family moved to Allen Ave. , Portland where he attended Portland area schools. Charlie loved and excelled in all sports where in High school he played football, baseball, and ran track. At the age of 19 Charlie Joined the Navy and served on the USS Otterstetter where he served his country bravely during the Korean conflict. After the Navy, Charlie worked at various metal working companies retiring from Rock Tenn in Scarborough, Maine. as a production manager in 2001 at the age of 68. In his younger years Charlie coached his sons baseball and football teams and took his family camping and just enjoying the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his two sons and spent many weekends at Camp up by Moosehead Lake. Charlie was a member of the Irish American club and looked forward to the trips to the Irish Village in Cape Cod. Charlie loved traveling with his wife and family including times spent at Niagara Falls , Las Vegas and Disney World with his Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Charlie was all about having fun and the life of the party, he had a smile that would light up any room, when you were with Charlie you were smiling with him. Charlie is predeceased by his parents Guy and Goldie Young, sister Gail Witterveld, and brother Donald Young. Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Georgiana Shaw Young of Portland , Daughter Kelly Young Thorne of Windham, Son Kevin Charles and his wife Heidi of Hollis, son Kristopher Charles and his wife Pamelyn of Windham, Grandchildren Kasey Watkins and Peter of Casco, Devan Young of Westbrook, Joshua Young of Windham, Megan Dunnells and Shawn of NY, Jacob Thorne of Windham, Brooke Young of Hollis , Benjamin Thorne of Windham and great grandchildren Cameron Young, Tenley and Kali Watkins. Brother Royce and wife Joyce, Brother Robert , Sister Sylvia and husband Bruce Morse, Sister Arline and husband Bertrum Emmons, Sister Gloria and husband Ralph Nappi, Sister Donna Horne, Sister Dolores and husband Charles Hannah, Brother Alan, Sister Janice and husband Galyn Shaw, Brother Gary and wife Cindy, Brother Paul and wife Pamela, Brother Guy and wife Crystal. Many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend a time of Visitation on Friday Jan 29, 2016 from 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodfords St. Portland, Maine. A funeral service will be held Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
