

Portland- Charlotte Hurley, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family March 9, 2017.Charlotte was born September 20th, 1924 in Cornish, Maine. She attended primary school in Cornish, attended Eastman School of Music and Boston University. Charlotte started her career teaching public school music in Caribou, Maine. Later she taught public school music at Westbrook where she met her husband, Stuart Hurley, in the school nurses' office. Stuart worked for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. She married Stuart in 1948 and had four beautiful children. Charlotte spent many wonderful years in Kalamazoo MI, and Madison Wi, but Maine was truly her home.
She returned to Maine in 1980. After her teaching career, she worked in retail at Jordan Marsh.
Upon retirement she became a docent at Portland Museum of Art, serving for 25 years and earning her docent emeritus status. Charlotte was a long time member of Woodford's Church and a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Charlotte is survived by her son Christopher (Katy), daughters Susan Boyd (David) and Joan-Tracey Covelli (Claude), grandchildren Bridget (Tommy), Hannah, Amanda, Sarah, Drew, Claire, Jaime and Brian. She was a proud great grandmother to 8 great grandsons. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Earl Chick, her brother Fredrick P. Chick (Bud), and her daughter Allison.
Charlotte not only triumphed over adversity, she created beauty wherever she went. She was the best friend ever.
Burial will take place in the late spring in Cornish, ME.
