

Scarborough - David Alan Mitchell died on January 18, 2016 at Scarborough Terrace surrounded by his loving family after losing his battle with cancer. David (Dave) was born in Portland on October 13, 1934 to Albert Wakefield Mitchell and Anna Perley Mitchell. He graduated from Deering High and attended Portland Jr. College. He served in the National Guard in Wyoming and worked for EG Foden in Portland after high school. He and his wife then owned a candy business called “Honey Bee Candy” which served southern Maine. He was best known for his management of the local Sid Harvey’s Wholesale Refrigeration, A/C & Heating supply company in Portland.
Dave was a man of many hobbies. He collected baseball cards, autographed photographs of famous baseball players, coins, and antique postcards. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman and in his early years he was an excellent bowler. He loved birds and squirrels until they ate part of the roof. He was a very intelligent man and did Sudoko and cryptograms on a daily basis. He was a long time fan of the Red Sox and held Portland Sea Dogs season tickets since the beginning. For the past several years he spent part of the winter in Florida and held seasons tickets to the Orioles spring training games. He also was an avid football fan and followed the Patriots and Giants. His true passion was playing cards and he hosted a Thursday night poker game at his home for the past 35 years. He also enjoyed going to the casino and racetrack.
Dave is survived by his wife Jacqueline Perry Mitchell of 59 years, his five children: Deborah S. Daigle and her husband Richard Daigle of Windham; Bonnie L. Mitchell of Bowling Green, Ohio/Gray, Me.; Lisa G. Mitchell and her significant other Michael Guptill of Buxton; Wendy J. Russell and her fiancée John Tatko of Greenville; Robert A. Mitchell and his wife Susan Mitchell of Raymond and Dave’s eighteen grand children and fourteen great-grandchildren.
