

Donald Ronald Gagne, 78, of South Portland, Maine passed away on January 27, 2026. Donald was born in Rochester, NH, on September 9, 1947, the adopted son of Eva and Florien Gagne. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Clarence Johnson, and his stepsiblings Charles Johnson, Sr., Norma Dorr, and Pauline Johnson.
Donald honorably served his country in the US Navy and received college degrees from McIntosh College (A.B.S), Plymouth State College (B.S.), and Husson College (M.S.). His long career included jobs within the government and private sectors, often in accounting positions. Prior to his retirement, he worked in Finance at Custom Disability Solutions.
Donald’s pursuits were extensive and included art, theater, travel and history. He traveled often throughout the years and was always a great and generous guide for visitors to New England. He had a deep love for the state of Maine and loved early morning car rides to watch the sun rise over the beaches of Ogunquit, frequent visits to Portland Headlight, and evening strolls through downtown Portland during First Friday Art Walks. Donald’s “bistro” was always open to family and friends, and he loved presenting fresh baked goods from local bakeries. Donald enjoyed antiques, depression glass, locally made pottery and art. He also collected friends and those that met him became family. He always enjoyed sharing his interests with family and friends.
Donald leaves behind a wide circle of family that includes cousins and their families, step-nieces and step-nephews, step-great nieces and step-great nephews, and step-great-great nieces and step-great-great nephews, as well as cherished friends. He will be deeply missed.
Donald will be buried at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, NH at a date to be announced.
