

Elda A. Breen, 98, died peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012
surrounded by her loving family at Mercy Hospital in Portland, ME.
Elda was born on January 16, 1914 in Hoboken, NJ the daughter of the late Frank and Rena (Marriotte) Nutini. After attending schools in New Jersey, Elda met and would later marry the love of her life Edward Breen on December 18, 1936. Together they began their family and in 1943 moved to Portland, ME.
For 47 years Elda and Edward shared a beautiful life together until Edward's
passing in 1983. Elda spent most of the time raising her family and caring for their home on Sheridan Street. During WWII Elda helped support her family and the war effort by working at the Portland Stove Foundry. Elda lived in Portland for over 60 years before moving to Scarborough Terrace Assisted Living in 2007.
Elda was a 65 year communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
where she was a long time member of the Women's Sodality. Elda also
volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader for the Girl Scouts of Main. She was a member of the Women's Home League and an active senior at the Cummings Center. Elda enjoyed a very active and happy life that included traveling, bowling, bingo, socializing, and most of all dancing. Just last week she participated in the Senior Olympics.
Predeceasing Elda was her beloved husband Edward, a daughter-in-law Carolyn
Breen, a son-in-law Bryce Morgan; four sisters, Ida, Amanda, Clara, and
Florence, and a brother Albert.
Surviving are her children William Breen Sr. of Cape Elizabeth, Irene Morgan of Westbrook; six grandchildren, Fred Andrews of Portland, Karen Smith and her husband Dale of Gorham, Kelly Hodgkins and her husband Michael of South
Portland, William Breen Jr. of Cape Elizabeth, Michael Breen of New York City, and Christopher Breen of South Portland. Also surviving are ten great
grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren are on their way.
A period of visitation for Elda and her family will be held this Friday,
September, 21, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins
Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St.,Portland, ME. An 11:00 AM Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated for Elda on Saturday September 22, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 268 Brown St. Westbrook, ME. A committal service for Elda will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland, ME on Monday September 24 at 11:00 AM.
A special thanks to the staff at Scarborough Terrace for the loving care she received. She had many friends there among the staff and residents.
