Portland- Guy A. Martini, 80, Scarborough Veterans Home, passed away on April 3, 2017 following a brief illness. He was born in Portland, a son of Michael and Mary (Maggiore) Martini (from Foggia, Italy) on May 18, 1936. Graduating from Portland High School, he worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, a bartender and in his later years as a parking attendant. He honorably served in the US Navy where he played the trumpet for the Navy Band. In Guys earlier years, with little baseball experience, he head-coached his son’s Farm-League team Pallotta Oil, recruiting from both friends and family. He was well-liked, where win or lose, you always got ice cream. He was an active member of the Italian Heritage Club, Amvets, & American Legion. He was a faithful communicant of St. Peters Church all his life where he also participated as an usher for the collections.
Not caring for material things, he enjoyed life and social get-togethers with family and friends and loved people unconditionally, who in turn loved him back. In his retirement, his favorite spot was the Eastern Promenade where he could be seen laying out near the boat landing before taking a cruise through town in his much-adored convertible. A happy-go-lucky guy who was always smiling and whistling, he had a heart of gold and will be missed immensely..
Guy was pre-deceased by his parents; sisters, Mary Martini, Brigida Tirabassi, Rose Martini Lane and Mickey Salvaggio.
He is survived by son, Michael Martini & wife Elizabeth of Honolulu Hawaii; daughter, Debra Beaudoin & husband Gary of Falmouth, ME; daughter, Maryanne Martini of Wyoming; sister, Ida Marcroft Childs of Westbrook; grandchildren, Chelsea Garland of Falmouth, Myles Libby of Colorado, Irene and Michael Martini of Florida, Sunita Martini of Washington and Aubrey of Wyoming. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved.
