James Meserve formally of Portland passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2018. He was born in Waterville, Maine, the son of Florence (Bonin) Meserve and the late Robert Meserve.
Jim graduated from Winslow High School in 1980 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Journalism from the University of Maine at Orono four years later. He started his career in the Boston area working at the Stride Rite Corp, Strawberries Music & Movies, Lojack Corporation and Cellular USA. During his time in Boston, Jim attended Boston College’s Wallace E. Carroll School of Management earning an MBA. In 1998, he found success in the art publishing and licensing business serving as President of Quartro Publishing, followed by an appointment to CEO/President of Applejack Art Partners. In 2006, Jim ventured out on his own to create and manage NextDay Art in Portland. A serial entrepreneur who started several small businesses, Jim was always looking for the next exciting and challenging business opportunity. He recently earned his real estate license and was to attend law school in the fall.
Jim had a great smile and was always quick to show it. He could not pass up the opportunity of a good joke or friendly tease; it was something his friends and family knew to expect and was a gift that he inherited from his late father. Jim enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S. and had the pleasure of calling many cities his home. He lived and worked in such places as Santa Barbara, La Jolla, Manchester (VT), New York City, Boston, Portland and Scottsdale. His many passions included working out, music, playing golf, and talking sports with his four brothers. Jim will be dearly remembered as funny, sensitive, proud and intelligent. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. His passing is a huge loss to his family and friends and all the many people who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his mother Florence of Winslow, his brothers John and his wife Anke of New York City; Paul and his wife Patricia of Falmouth; Mark and Matthew of Winslow; and his nieces and nephews Margaret and Kathleen of Falmouth and Brendan, Anna, and Luke of New York.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home in Portland, with a Committal Service to follow at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery in Westbrook. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life and Reception for Jim on Saturday, May 26, from 1 - 4 p.m. at DiMillo’s On The Water, Portland.
