Portland - Joyce “Jody” Michaud of Portland, was summoned by the lord on October 7, 2011, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. Born February 11, 1934 in Sherman Mills, ME, daughter of Harold & Florence Buzzell Lane.
She was educated as a nurse at Eastern Maine Medical with additional training in New York and Massachusetts. During her nursing career she worked at Winchester Hospital, Winchester, MA, Maine Medical Center, American Red Cross and Martin’s Point Health Care of Portland, ME.
She was predeceased by her first husband, William A. Garner, II, and her husband and sole-mate of 18 years, Raymond A. Michaud, her parents and her brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Joel.
She will be deeply missed by those who survive her: her sister, Gloria “Lane” Willigar and her husband Bob of Crystal, ME, half-sisters Karen Souza of Naples, ME and Kendra L. Chisholm of Ellsworth, ME, daughter Sharon E. Milose and husband Ed, grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda and Justin of Gray, ME, son Allen F. Garner, II and wife Julie, grandchildren, Will, Lauren and Brad of Cumming, GA, son Mark C. Garner and wife Joyce, grandchildren Alex and Zachary of Las Vegas, NV. Stepson James Michaud and wife Valerie, Stepdaughter Karen Michaud, grandchildren Sara, Dan and Kathleen, Stepson Kenneth Michaud and John Brasseux. She will also be sorely missed by her neighbors at Parson’s Pond and her weekly bridge partners.
Jody was a member of the Woodfords Congregational Church. She enjoyed walking, cooking, entertaining, playing cards with her bridge group and spending time at Pine Point Beach with her family and friends.
Family was so important to Jody; she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being a “Hockey Mom” and grandmother. Jody always had a smile on her face and was willing to help out where ever she could. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
Jody’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the Medical staff at Maine Medical Center and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and to her great team of doctors and nurses with a special thank you and appreciation to her caregiver, Diane Rolfe.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 10 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, with the Rev. Carolyn Lambert presiding.
