Scarborough – Katherine Grant Amabile, 89, of Westbrook passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the Gosnell House in Scarborough on February 20, 2022. Katherine was born on May 29th, 1932 the daughter of Franklin and Aurora (Ricard) Grant in Alfred, ME.
Katherine graduated from Alfred High School and Mercy Hospital for Nursing before starting her 27 year career with Westbrook Community Hospital. On May 6, 1953 she married Frank J. Amabile Sr and together they raised their family of 7 children. They remained married for 53 years before Frank’s passing in 2006.
Katherine was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Stevens Ave. Her faith and family were the most important things in her life. After retiring from Westbrook Community Hospital, she worked many years as a volunteer at the Westbrook Food Pantry dedicating her time again caring and helping others.
Katherine is survived by her children Janet and David Boutin, Frederick and Laurel Amabile, Mary and Paul Vickerson, Frank Jr and Lisa Amabile, Joseph Amabile, James Amabile and Lynn Lamson, son-in-law Andrew Glidden; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and her sister Rita Drew. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Theresa, and her youngest daughter Anne Glidden. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 14th St. Joseph’s Church on Stevens Ave at 11:00am followed by a committal service at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
