

Mrs. Katherine "Kay" (Curran) Collins, 88, of Portland, passed away on Wed., Oct. 29th. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Henry Collins. Kay was born in Portland, the daughter of the late Francis J. Curran and the late Katherine (Connolly) Curran. She was a graduate of Portland High School, class of 1944.
Prior to becoming a homemaker, Kay was employed by New England Telephone Co. She enjoyed singing, traveling, going to the beach, and being with people. She will be especially remembered for her boundless energy, sense of humor, and endless compliments to everyone.
She is survived by her children Frank Collins and his fiancé Ann Hodgetts of Portland; Judith Gilman and her husband Robert of Westbrook; Katherine Hamilton and her husband Bruce of Milford, MA; Pamela Lambert of Saco; Thomas Collins and his wife Kristina of Portland; Michael Collins and his wife Moira of Scarborough; her sister Virginia Walsh Emerick; her brothers Francis Curran and John Curran, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "Grammie." She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Collins, and two sisters, Mary Valicenti and Ann Skillin.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Fallbrook Woods and the VNA Home Health Hospice for their everyday compassion.
Family and friends are invited to share in a time of visitation from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial for Kay will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
In lieu of flowers the Collins family suggest memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
