

SCARBOROUGH --- Mary C. Guy, 83, of Cape Elizabeth, passed peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her sons by her side.
Mary was born in Portland on March 11, 1929, the daughter of Rosario and Josephine (Proietti) DiMatteo. Following graduation from Deering High School, she began working for Union Mutual Life Insurance Co. and continued until her retirement in 1993 at which time her many year career was among UNUM’s longest. While at UNUM, she met Arthur C. Guy and they were married in 1972.
Mary enjoyed time spent with family and friends, summers at Sebago Lake, participating in bowling leagues and enjoying many sightseeing trips and outings offered through the WLU Venture Club. She contributed much of her time in retirement to working with the UNUM retirees Headlighters Group and volunteering with many nonprofit organizations including American Red Cross, Southern Maine Agency on Aging, the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and Comfy Cape Childcare where she enjoyed reading to children.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Arthur and her brother, George D. DiMatteo. She is survived by her sons, Gene R. Reardon and his wife, Frances of Falmouth and Joseph A. Reardon and his wife, Karen Rednor of Newton, MA.; grandchildren Michael K. Reardon and his wife, Monica of Portland and Christina M. Reardon of Westbrook; great-grandson Anthony M. Reardon of Portland; sister Angela M. Wilson and her husband, Jean of Falmouth, sister-in-law Carolyn G. DiMatteo of So. Portland; brothers Bartholomew DiMatteo and his wife Lorraine of Joplin, MO. and John R. DiMatteo and his wife, Patricia of Cumberland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Gosnell for their kind attention to her care and comfort.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday April 24, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Funeral prayers will be recited on Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
