

Portland- Mary K. Sullivan, 84, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 following surgical complications. The daughter of Dr. Raymond and Helen (Conard) Keesecker, Mary K was born in Cleveland Ohio on March 28, 1927. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in 1948, where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. While at Cornell she met Dr. Edward M. Sullivan, DVM and the two were married on June 26, 1948 in Cleveland. They moved to Pride's Corner in Westbrook, Maine to raise their family, and later moved to Falmouth in 1974. As a child Mary K enjoyed horseback riding, competitive field hockey and swimming. In her adult life she was always up for an adventure as she explored new interests. She was an avid skier, sailor, and tennis player. She also enjoyed skating, hiking, calligraphy, bridge and gardening. Mary K was a voracious reader. As a homemaker who raised three children she volunteered for the Pride's Corner School PTA, and in the school library. She was a member of the Portland Yacht Club, the College Club of Portland, Women's Auxiliary of the Osteopathic Hospital of ME, Cornell Alumni Association, Women's Committee of the Portland Symphony Orchestra and recorded books for the Down East Recording for the Blind. She was very active in St. Edmund’s Catholic Church in Prides Corner as a lector, and a member of the parish council for seven years, serving two as president. She is predeceased by her husband Edward of 57 years. Mary K is survived by her three daughters and their families: Marcia Sullivan, daughter-in-law Deb Brusini, and granddaughter Delaney Vartanian; daughter Christie DeMichael, son-in-law Brent, grandchildren Allie and John; daughter Patty Sullivan, son-in-law Jeff Lang, granddaughter Samantha Gillis; five nieces and a nephew. Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM, at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. J. Joseph Ford at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church 266 Foreside Rd. Falmouth on Saturday August 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
