A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Mollie is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Kimball Lee Mason; her three children, Lydia Mason Hill, Christopher Mason (Nathalie), and Stewart Mason; and her cherished grandchildren, Mason, Mariah, Oliver, Marielle, and Dante.
Mollie grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, where she was deeply involved in her community and high school life. She played multiple sports, served as a cheerleader, and participated in numerous clubs. She went on to attend Wheaton College, where she was elected class president. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Kimball Mason, whom she met in Paris Hill, Maine, after being introduced by Kim’s sister while they were both counselors at a summer camp.
Mollie and Kim built a rich and adventurous life together, living in Edina, MN; Wellesley and Boston, MA; and several towns in Maine, moving approximately every seven years. Wherever they lived, Mollie quickly became an active and influential member of the community.
Highly driven and accomplished, Mollie often found herself in leadership roles, serving as President of the Newcomers Club, President of the Garden Club, a church deacon, and Chair of the Junior League of Boston for two years, among many other volunteer and civic positions.
Mollie was especially proud to be a housewife and homemaker. Her perspective was shared widely when she authored an article published in Women’s Day Magazine titled “A Creative Approach to Being a Housewife.” This recognition ultimately led to her being named Massachusetts Mother of the Year in 1981.
Mollie had a lifelong love of learning and creativity, enjoying gardening, flower arranging, creative writing, and watercolor painting, including exhibiting her work in a one-woman art show. She even took a class on the Constitution of the United States just so she could argue her political points correctly. Mollie was also an avid tennis player and, later in life, in order to spend more time with Kimball, she became a determined golfer and learned to fly fish.
After Kimball’s retirement, they traveled extensively with their many friends. Some of their favorite destinations included Arizona, Alaska, Portugal, New Zealand, England, Austria, and the Caribbean.
Mollie had an exceptionally kind and generous heart. She donated her time to many charitable and community organizations, but above all, she cherished time spent with family and friends—especially when loved ones gathered at their homes in Maine.
Her strong Christian faith, formed early in life, guided her throughout her years. Mollie’s strength, courage, kindness, and steadfast convictions will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
A memorial service will be held at the Falmouth Congregational Church in Falmouth, Maine, on Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 AM
