

Scarborough- Myrtle M. Cole, 95, of Wilton and formerly of Scarborough passed away on April 21, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. The daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (McEntee) Gleason she was born on March 14, 1918. She attended Solon schools, and worked many years at Solon Manufacturing Mills. In the 1940s she worked at the South Portland Shipyard on the last Liberty Ship built, named the S.S. Jeremiah O’Brien, in the inner bottoms. She was on the ship when it was christened. Upon moving to Scarborough she worked at the Diplomat Motel while raising her family. Myrtle loved to crochet, read, and do word search puzzles. She was known for her beautiful gardens, both flower and vegetables, spending many hours weeding and pruning, and making flower arrangement. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband Stanley Cole, her brothers, Donald Gleason, Douglas Gleason, and Stanley Gleason, and her sisters Clara Heald, Lois Stickney, and Bertha Carl. She is survived by her Children, Frederick McClintick of Bingham, Nancy Cates of Scarborough, Donald Dionne of Wilton, Susan Dionne Keniston and her husband Ronald of Westbrook, Sally Dionne Mater of Scarborough, and Bambi Dionne Morneau and her husband Bobby of Hollis, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, she also is survived by her brother Frank Gleason of Anson, and her sister, Catherine Stickney of Solon. At Myrtle’s request a graveside service will be held on Thursday April 25, 2013 at 1:00 PM at New Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. The service will be officiated by her much loved nephew Frank (Skipper) Gleason III. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Myrtle’s family extends their sincere thanks to the caring staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, and a very special thanks to Michael Smith.
