Pat Jordan passed away peacefully in her Yarmouth home surrounded by her family. Pat was a unique person in many ways. She had one blue eye and one brown eye which sums up the different personalities she embodied. Pat embraced life and was always the life of the party. She was one of the hippest 81 year old women on the planet.
Pat was her “daddy’s little girl” and was a precocious child. Her parents sent her to several schools, Deering High, Wayneflete and Fryeburg Academy, trying to keep her mind on education. She claims she had a hard time in school because she was left handed. Fryeburg Academy was her gateway to her love of skiing in North Conway where she was always seen donning a cowboy hat on the slopes. She formed many close friendships in North Conway and she passed her love for skiing on to her family. She managed to graduate from Westbrook Junior College with a degree in secretarial skills…or something like that, but it didn’t matter because her work history was short lived.
In 1957 Pat’s good looks and vivacious personality landed her the “most eligible bachelor in Maine” when she married her husband Joseph “Chet” Jordan. Together they had four children, Julie, Joe, Joanne and Jill they raised in Cumberland and filled their lives with adventures.
She was a well rounded mother who let her kids skip school to pick fiddleheads, taught her kids how to play her favorite poker game “99”, to love animals, and how to host a great party. Her love of travel with her family never subsided. Pat took up snowmobiling and her ability to jump a snowmobile was caught on film and one of her legendary pictures.
When Pat lost her husband in 1994 Pat’s strength came to the forefront. Her craft of manipulation was second to none. Over the years she would pretend she didn’t know how to do something because it kept her kids closer. Once she got one of her children to do something, plant flowers, balance the checkb
ook, set the lights on the Christmas tree, take the screen out of the storm door…. it was their job from then on and no one else could possibly do it as well.
Pat relished her role as a grandmother to Lauren and Paige Vashon, Carrie Kennedy, Heather Foster, Jessica and Chet Jordan, Ben and Gabe Marchese and great grandmother to Jaden and Madison Kennedy and Maiya Vashon. Due to her love of reality television Pat’s children would frequently joke with her that she knew more about the Kardashians than her own family. After several tries Pat learned to use an iPad so she could keep track of all the exploits of her family she adored and was so proud of. She felt she became a little of an internet sensation when she became the star of Monday Night with Mom postings and she had many people send her recipes to try and would get a kick out of her antics. Pat had a life full of vivacity and love. When she received her second diagnosis of cancer and it was evasive lung cancer she was not going to go easy. She kept saying they could be wrong and she didn’t know why everyone was treating her like she was dying. The last week of her time on this earth she was saying we better hurry and take another trip before she got sick. Everyone who met her loved her and she will be sadly missed by all she has left behind but she has gone to a much bigger party where she will be with her husband Joseph “Chet” Jordan, her mother Ruth Slocum Pennings, father Charles J. Pennings Jr., and brothers Ralph and Jim Mahoney as well as some of her most cherished friends.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, vaporizers in one hand, medical marijuana in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO what a ride!"
