

SOUTH PORTLAND – Rex W. Davis, 62, of South Portland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Thursday February 27, 2014 after a long illness.
He was born on March 21, 1951, the son of Robert and Greta (Anderson) Davis in Portland. Rex attended Portland schools. Following his graduation from Portland High School, Rex enlisted in the Air Force in 1970 and served for 22 years, retiring proudly in 1992 as a Master Sergeant. After returning to Portland from Little Rock, Arkansas, Rex went on to work at for AAA for a short time. In 1994 he began his second career at the United States Postal Service and was a well known letter carrier in the Portland area for nearly 20 years. On July 4, 2005, Rex married Francine Robbins of South Portland.
Rex was a very generous and kind man. He always offered his help to family, friends and anyone who he crossed paths with. Rex was a dedicated employee at the Post Office and worked up until his hospitalization. Rex enjoyed any project that involved the use of his garage full of tools, especially working on his home remodel. Rex loved any opportunity for people to get together. He was always sure to capture family moments in pictures and videos, especially those involving his granddaughter. Rex will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Rex was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul.
He is survived by his loving wife Francine Davis of South Portland; a step-son, Todd Robbins and his wife Abby of Portland; a step-daughter,Gillian Alsheimer and her husband Erick of Seattle, Washington; a granddaughter; and dear friend Beverly Raley of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A service with military honors will be held at 12 pm on Thursday in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta.
