

Portland, ME – Robert F. Gelinas, 74, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough with his loving wife and family by his side.
Robert was born in Rochester, NH on July 15th, 1933. At the age of 7, his family moved to Portland. Upon graduating from Deering High School in 1951 he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science Degree in business from USM.
After marrying Sylvia Landry of Westbrook on March 3, 1956, they soon started a loving family. Robert served in the US Army from 1955 – 1958 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant.
Robert moved his young family to Wakefield, MA where he accepted a position as an accountant in a Boston firm. After three years he returned to his home state of Maine. Bob continued his career with positions at Hannaford Brothers, Maine Medical Center and several other local businesses.
Bob was a long time supporter of local athletics and was a Little League and Little Ladd Football coach long after his sons stopped playing. Robert's favorite games to watch were when his grandchildren were playing. He never missed a game. He was a very sociable person who enjoyed conversing with people wherever he went.
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years Sylvia (Landry) Gelinas, his three sons Stephen and his wife Prudence of Durham, Gregory and his wife Patricia of Portland and Michael of Gorham; five grandchildren Andrew, Stephanie, Nicole, Tyler and Connor. He also leaves his two brothers Eugene W. Gelinas and his wife Janet of Bradenton, FL and Wayne Gelinas and his wife Maxine of Pensacola, FL. He is predeceased by his parents Eugene A. and Evelyn M. (Carpenter) Gelinas and his brother Richard O. Gelinas.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation on Sunday February 3rd from 2-4 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.
Funeral prayers were held on Monday, February 4th, at 9:15 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland.
Burial will be at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery, Westbrook at a later date.
