

Scarborough - Robert McCormick Jr. of South Portland, passed peacefully with his loving family at his side on December 12, 2011 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after his long dignified battle with cancer. Robert was born in Portland on March 2, 1947, the son of Robert Sr. and Sadie McCormick.
Robert attended the Portland school system and shortly thereafter joined the Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was stationed all over the world. During his 25-year military career, he and his family had many memorable experiences traveling throughout Europe, in particular various parts of Germany and Italy. Upon retiring from the military Robert returned to Maine and started his professional career for the Maine Department of Corrections. He worked as a Juvenile Program Worker and as the Accreditation Officer for the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. He was a great role model for his colleagues and the population of facility residents.
Robert retired from the Long Creek Youth Center in March 2011 to pursue his passion for golf. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed spending time with his family and barbecuing at family events, where he was affectionately known as the “Grill Sergeant.” His many colleagues, friends and family will miss Robert.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Concetta McCormick who passed away on July 16, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Ewa McCormick; his children, Mark and Rebecca McCormick of Westbrook, Robert McCormick III of Westbrook, Philip and fiancée Lori Pratt of Westbrook, Melissa and Bobby Stewart of Otisfield, and stepson Adam Lewandowski of South Portland; his grandchildren, Concetta and Abigail Stewart and Luke McCormick; his siblings, Mary Douthwright, Judith Cloutier, and James and Deborah McCormick.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 6-8 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 9:30 am in Calvary Cemetery.
