

Ruth Spring Bustin, formerly of Portland, passed away September 18, 2016 at the age of 95 after a brief period of declining health. Born April 4, 1921 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the first born child of Walter M. and Olive (Farris) Spring. After graduating from Sanford High School in 1939, she moved to Portland to attend hairdressing school. Ruth worked at the same “beauty parlor” in Deering Center for 72 years, through many owners and name changes, retiring in 2013 at the age of 92 from Indulge Salon.
For 60 years, Ruth spent summers at the family camp on Little Sebago Lake, enjoying regular Saturday night bean suppers, card games, corn roasts, and 11:00 weekend happy hours with the neighbors. She was a long-time member of North Deering Congregational Church and served with the Women’s Guild for over 50 years. In 2014 she relocated to Florida to reside with her son and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her son, Norman H. Bustin and his wife Laura of The Villages, FL; her granddaughters, Katherine M. Bustin of Overland Park, KS and Elizabeth E. Bustin of Wildwood, FL; her sister Mary E. Lombard of Cumberland Center; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Marvin H. Bustin; and her nephew, Stephen Lombard.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland. The family would like relatives and friends coming to the service to meet at the Evergreen cemetery office at 10:45am to process over to the place of service.
