Stephen A. Hay, 66, of Bath, Maine, passed away tragically on May 26, 2025, doing what he loved most. Born in Portland, Maine, on April 16, 1959, Stephen was the beloved son of John and Constance (Adde) Hay.
Stephen’s love for the open road defined much of his life. A dedicated truck driver, he found freedom and joy behind the wheel. Growing up at camp in Sugarloaf, Stephen developed a lifelong passion for skiing, earning the affectionate family nickname “Hotdog.” He was also a state frisbee champion and an accomplished arm wrestler with many trophies to his name. During a portion of his life, he wrestled for the EWA and was known by the nickname NBK.
Though never a big fan of cats, Stephen’s heart was won by Tuxi, his beloved feline companion. His affection extended to all animals, including Zoe and Rowdy the dogs and Rocky the raccoons. A passionate motorcyclist, Stephen cherished the camaraderie and spirit of the biking community.
Stephen was an avid member of the IHFFE and served as the first national enforcer in the history of the State of Maine and his club status was reinstated after his medical challenges.
Most holidays were spent with Ruth and Craig at the Hay house, where Stephen enjoyed many celebrations and adventures as part of the family. Ruth and Craig were known for keeping the peace and often served as Stephen’s “human shield” during the holiday festivities, a role he appreciated deeply.
He is survived by his brother Eric Hay and his fiancee Kelly Morin; his beautiful daughters, Everlyn Adde Hay and Joceylyn Adde Hay; cousins Couri and Gordon Hay; nieces Suzanne, G. Adde Mullen; his bestest friend Ruth Baker and extended family including Nadine and Bill Blake, Scott and Martha Cooper, Craig Strout, the mother of his children Amy Prout, and Jessica Locke.
Stephen’s warmth, strength, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. Steve’s most cherished and first love was for his two beautiful daughters Everlyn and Joceyln.
