PORTLAND -- Theresa (Ricci) Ciampi passed away on April 7, 2012 at Saint Joseph Rehabilitation and Residence in Portland, after a short illness. She was born in Portland on Dec. 21, 1933, the daughter of late Luigi and Theresa Atripaldi Ricci. She grew up in the 'Little Italy' section of Portland and was a life time member of St Peter's Roman Catholic Parish. Theresa was very proud of her Italian heritage. She worked for many years at the family store Commercial Fruit on India Street, later she became the lady on the side of the Portland Buses for Amato's with the caption: 'Theresa Knows a real Italian when she sees one'. She retired from Hannaford's in 1996 working behind the deli counter, which was her passion. Here, she would meet new friends and get caught up with old friends, passing along old family recipe's. A smile would light up her face when someone would yell out 'Hey Theresa!' She enjoyed going to the Italian Heritage Center with friends, and got a great deal of joy attending class reunions with her friend Eva Bauld. Theresa marched in the Columbus Day Parades with her sisters Jo and Louise and two friends, Kay and Mary, revived back in the mid-eighties. Theresa loved to watch her grandchildren play sports, her granddaughter's soccer games and her grandson's football games at Bonny Eagle. Her home and her flower gardens were her 'heaven on earth' along with watching the neighborhood grow up around her.
Surviving are her son Alexander and his wife Mary and her grandchildren Jessica and Anthony; four sisters Sister Maria Ricci RSM, Giovanna(JoJo) Ricci, Lucy Sesto, Louise Delaney and her husband Joseph and a very special cousin, 'brother' Gerald Ricci. The Family would like to thank the Unit A staff at Saint Joseph's for the care and love they showed to her and her family.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation Tuesday April 10, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday April 11, 2012 at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 72 Federal St Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
