

Albert, known as ‘Stonie’ by many, was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He was born in Woodburn, OR to John and Cora Mae Stone on Dec. 31, 1923. When he was 8 years old his mother passed away and he, along with his older brother Rocky, were sent to live with their aunt and uncle, Helen and Lex Skiller. Al attended Union School in Woodburn, and Benson High School in Portland.
He began attending the Portland Foursquare Church with his aunt and uncle, and while there met his future wife, Dorothy Spain, when he was 15 years old. When WWII broke out, he joined the Army and they were married 2 weeks before he left for active duty. During the war he served in North Africa and Europe and was a part of the 103rd Infantry Division that helped to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp.
Al loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, golf (he served as a marshal at Oregon City Golf Club for many years), and other activities. He was very involved in his kids’ activities, coaching Little League baseball and church basketball, teaching Sunday School, Youth Group, YMCA, Explorer Scouts, to name a few.
He supervised the crew responsible for televising most of the sports events in Portland, including the Buckaroo hockey games, Blazer basketball, some college and professional football games held at Multnomah Stadium, as well as the Miss Oregon Pageant in Seaside.
Al and Dorothy were married for 40 years and had two children, Diane and David. After Dorothy passed away, he married Dolores Perciso who he was with for 39 years until her death in November 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, daughter Diane, brothers Rocky and Glenn, and his second wife Dolores. He is survived by his son David, Sister Norma, 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
