By age fifteen, young Allan Hamilton had built his first model “A” car. At age nineteen, he graduated from Life Bible College and married Dorothy McKeever who passed away in 1986.
The couple set out to preach the Foursquare Gospel, pastoring churches in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Oregon. Along with mission trips to Thailand, Africa and Brazil, they spent five years in the Philippines, where Allan was not only the Supervisor, but operated a day school, Bible College and pastored a church. After returning to the States the family settled in Portland, Oregon in 1969 where Pastor Hamilton assumed the position of Senior Pastor of the Portland Foursquare Church. The church boundaries and membership rapidly increased, growing to thousands. In 1980 under his leadership, the church opened Heritage Christian School. In 1976 Pastor Hamilton was one of twelve clergymen worldwide, invited to the Vatican for a dialogue between the Vatican and representatives of the Pentecostal churches.
Pastor Hamilton retired in 1990. He married Joan Duncan in 1992. Together, they ministered throughout several countries including Japan, Nepal, Brazil, Thailand, Russia, Belarus and Central America. He proudly supported Joan’s ministry as a talented concert violinist. They enjoyed 24 blessed years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Joan, two daughters; Janice Belden and Kathryn Pollard; two step-children, Karen Whetsell and Tim Duncan; four grandchildren; Ken Belden, Kim Zilk, James Kenna, Sean Pollard and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pastor was soft spoken. To find him, look for the ‘perfectly coiffed’ hair. He had a keen sense of humor often sharing stories from the pulpit that brought the church family to laughter. Every Sunday morning, he was at the church doors, welcoming all with a ‘thank you for coming’.
Throughout his life, Pastor Hamilton proclaimed his faith to untold thousands of people in truth and dignity, never wavering from the written word of God. A tender warrior, a mighty leader, a job well done. His crown will be laden with jewels. His life was a testimony to his belief; a living example and mentor as a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. His light remains bright. He was much loved and will be sorely missed. He was ‘like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose life does not wither. Whatever he does, prospers”. Psalms 1:3
