Her siblings Harold, Jack & Patrick all proceeded her in death, her sister Phyllis still resides on the Oregon Coast. As a child Ann’s family moved to Portland where she attended Highland Elementary & Jefferson High School. As a young woman she drove a truck for Stacy’s Cleaners & worked in the shipyards during the war. She later worked for Meier & Frank during the holiday season and for The Oregon Candy Company where she made candy canes.
In 1945 she met Clifford M. Neill and they were married Aug 9, 1946. They made their home in Portland where they raised 3 daughters. She is survived by her daughters; Carol, Jackie & Bonnie, 6 granddaughters and her 10 great-grandchildren who will miss their "Chocolate Grandma." Ann, as she was known by her friends enjoyed bowling, the holidays, big band music, playing her harmonica & being surrounded by family.
When Ann & Cliff retired they lived briefly on the Oregon Coast in Florence, while they enjoyed their time there they decided it was time to travel a bit so they sold their home and purchased a truck and 5th wheel and headed to warmer climates. They stayed in Arizona for awhile, eventually returning to Oregon to be Camp Hosts in the Gorge. They loved their adventures but longed for something more. After seeing an ad in the Oregonian, Cliff & Ann became apartment managers with Carla Properties for Imperial House apartments on 122nd & Glisan. Ann was the office manager and Cliff took care of all the maintenance & grounds. They remained there for 18 years. They were loved by their tenants and treated everyone like family.
Ann loved family holidays, her snow village set & the fun we they had on her karaoke machine. She became known as “Chocolate Grandma” to her great-grandchildren as she always had a bowl of Hershey’s miniatures or kisses on her coffee table. She loved Wheel of Fortune, made the best clam dip & had a tuna sandwich everyday! Cliff passed away in April, 2004 and shortly after Ann began showing signs of Alzheimer’s. She eventually ended up in care facilities where she was cared for up until her death. She had a beautiful and long life and we are so happy she is once again reunited with her love.
