Born on January 23, 1932, in Lawrence, Kansas, Carl was the child of Wesley and Laurene Fetty.
Their family relocated to Oregon during Carl's early years, and they graduated from Beaverton High School in 1950. As a teenager, Carl developed a passion for hunting, fishing, music playing in the school band model airplane building, and downhill skiing.
From 1951 to 1953, Carl served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Bemidji, Minnesota. It was there they met JoAn at a USO dance; the two married in 1955. The couple returned to Oregon so Carl could attend Oregon State University. They welcomed their first daughter, Barbara, during this time. Carl earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1959.
Carl began their professional career at North American Aviation, combining their engineering skills with a lifelong love of airplanes. Work assignments took the family across several states including New York, Florida (where their second daughter Kathy was born), and Nevada before settling back in Hillsboro, Oregon. Their third child, Karen, was born in 1963.
Later, Carl worked for Leupold & Stevens Inc., designing rifle scopes and binoculars. This role allowed them to travel internationally and continue exploring the world.
Carl cherished time outdoors and shared many hobbies with friends and family: skiing trips, model airplane building during winter months, jigsaw puzzles with their daughters, and Saturday night square dances with JoAn and friends.
In retirement, Carl and JoAn traveled extensively from Alaska to Florida and Hawaii and spent summers in Manzanita on the Oregon coast and winters in Green Valley, Arizona.
Carl is survived by their brother Dennis of Aloha; spouse JoAn; daughters Barbara Fetty-Solders (Tom Knollman), Kathy Fetty (Rob Hakanson), and Karen Fetty-Al-Khaledy (Noury Al-Khaledy) and six grandchildren: Kirsten, Ellie, Amy, Henry, Kayla, and Ranya.
May their memory bring comfort to those who knew them.
