Carl Andrew Nelson

Carl Andrew Nelson, 89 of Portland Oregon, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010. He was born November 25, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Hans and Ingeborg (Mortenson) Nelson. Carl grew up in Spokane, Washington where he attended elementary and high school. He served in the U.S. Army – Air Force from 1942 to 1945. Carl married Margaret Sawastuk on May 13, 1944 in Bedford, Ohio and she preceded him in death in 1997. Carl worked for Armour & Company from 1945 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Sons of Norway. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an avid sports fan. He is survived by his son Roger Nelson (Cheryl) of Portland OR; daughter Diane Plante (Jerry) of Sherwood OR; grandchildren Jill Harland of Beaverton OR, Carol Duquette of Wilsonville OR, Nancy Jasper of Portland OR and Lindsay Childers of Tigard OR and great grandchildren Peyton Devereux, Madeline Duquette, Drew Childers, Lily Devereux, Devin Childers and Austin Jasper.Viewing will be held from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 and Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd in Portland OR. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery.
