Carrol Keith Coppinger was born in Doty, Washington to parents Noel Andrew and Effie Violet (Thorp) Coppinger on November 17, 1926.
He was raised in the Cedar Mill area where he lived most of his life. In his early youth, he attended Cedar Mill School.
Carrol served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was trained as a machinist.
He married Carolyn L. Conley on August 12, 1962, in Jamestown, Colorado.
Early in his working life, Carrol owned a Grocery Store in the Bethany area. In the 1970’s he worked in Denver, Colorado as a Machinist for Martin – Marietta. Following his retirement from Martin – Marietta, he served as a machinist for the Union Pacific Railroad in Portland. He retired from Union Pacific in the early 80’s. He also worked for a brief period in the Los Angeles area earlier in his career and also spent a short time working in Alaska.
Carrol loved to travel in his motor home to places like the Oregon and Washington coast and the Seattle area. He also visited places such as Reno, Nevada and San Francisco, California.
In the last 5 years he fulfilled his dream of returning to Pearl Harbor and Oahu, Hawaii. He also made a return visit to the Denver, Colorado area as well as a trip to Wisconsin to visit his son.
Carrol will be remembered for his love for the game of Cribbage and for his never ending sweet – tooth. He especially liked chocolate. Carrol is an honored church member of New Thought Center for Spiritual Living, in Lake Oswego. He will fondly be remembered for being “Grandpa” to the children of his church community. He will be greatly missed.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Carolyn who passed away in 2006.
Survivors include his children: son Clyde Coppinger; daughters Iris Noble and Cathy Davidson; and sons Dan Bartelsky, Paul Coppinger and Carl Coppinger. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A public visitation for Carrol will take place in Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, March 11, from 9am to 8pm.
A memorial service will take place in New Thought Center for Spiritual Living in Lake Oswego -
