Celeste Granato passed peacefully of natural causes on April 29, 2018. She was born in Missoula, MT on March 25, 1943. Celeste grew up and loved the mountains and the beauty of Montana. She traveled with her husband there several times. She and John loved their beautiful view of the downtown park blocks, where they spent most of their married life together. Celeste lived 2+ years after the passing of her husband John. Celeste continued to keep a positive and faithful life. Everyone that she encountered at the assisted living complex, said she was the most ‘gracious and kind woman’. They all seemed to adore her!
As a young adult, Celeste lived in Seattle for a period before finding her way to Portland. In moving to Portland, Celeste had several unique careers, excelling in all of them. She modeled for Gloria LaVonne Modeling and Charm School for several years, eventually teaching there as well. Celeste then used her skills as a hostess for the Captain’s Corner restaurant, often teaching patrons how to gracefully get in and out of a booth! It was there where she met the love of her life John Granato.
John and Celeste married in August of 1979 and spent the next thirty-seven years being loving and kind to one another, enjoying dining out and going to the movies together. During this time, Celeste’s catholic faith brought her to a twenty plus year career working for St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Celeste duties were varied as she gave communion to shut-in’s and hospital patients as a pastoral minister. She worked in the offices assisting several priests, performed readings, decorated the church for holidays, and assisting with weddings, funerals, communions and confirmations, including John’s grandsons catholic education!
Later in life, Celeste was again called by her faith to continue her religious education. She graduated with a master’s degree in theology from the University of Portland in 1994 at the age of forty-nine, all while continuing her responsibilities at St. Michaels. Celeste also enjoyed a love of writing and wrote several poems that were published. Our family is still astonished at all her accomplishments!
Celeste is survived by her step-daughters Nancy Miller and Karen Granato, John’s grandsons Damon Miller and Darrelle Miller, son-in-law David Miller, daughter-in-law Georgia Granato, grand daughter-in-law Monique Miller, and granddaughter Andreana Scott. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John and his son Michael Granato. Also surviving are great granddaughters Mi’Keyta, Tamia, Ammarah, Brooke, Maliyah and Alayah, and a recent addition to our family, her great-great granddaughter AceLynn.
Celeste was a kind and loving person to all who knew her. We know John and Celeste are together again. She will be missed, and we are comforted by knowing she is with the Lord our God. Heaven now has an Angel of God in receiving Celeste.
