Cheryle Lynn Fletcher was born September 26, 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to the late Rev. Manuel L. Williams Sr. and Mildred L. Harris. Cheryle was the youngest child of four siblings. She and her brother Manuel were like two peas in a pot. They were like Bonnie and Clyde and always had each other’s back and love for one another.
Cheryle attended Sabin Elementary School and then received her General Education Diploma. She was an Alcohol and Drug Advocate for men and women who were struggling with their addiction. She also attended PCC and received some credit, but due to a busy work schedule she wasn’t able to finish her college education.
Cheryle worked various jobs aiding in recovery to name a few; she worked for the Housing Authority as an inspector, the Boys & Girls Club and Hooper Detox. Cheryle had a love for people and was inspired by women such as Lyanla Vanzant and Women of Purpose. She loved to attend the Spiritual Women’s Retreats.
At the age of 12, Cheryle Lynn Williams gave her life to Christ and was baptized by the late Rev. Leonard L. Ransom of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Cheryle loved the Lord with all of her heart and soul mostly because her mother who planted those seeds in her at birth. As Cheryle came to know the Lord, she was a member of Greater Faith COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Ings, she was a faithful and active servant of the Lord. She served on the Usher Board and sang in the choir.
Cheryle’s siblings loved her for her humor and fighting spirit. Cheryle did not take any prisoners. Her sibling use to call her Momma Dolee and Bugga Cat. If Cheryle liked you, she was so genuine you did not have to question her loyalty.
Cheryle greatest joy was giving birth to her only child Yvonne S. Williams born in love with Garland Norman in 1976. Cheryle always made it a point to make her daughter happy. Meaning that she would pick up her daughter and friends, take them out for pizza and rolling skating. Yvonne’s fondest memory is at the age 11, when her mom gave her $100 and she knew then what it felt like to have big money. (Smile) Another great day for Cheryle is when her granddaughter Donnae was born.
Cheryle was upbeat, strong willed, outgoing and liked by many. She enjoyed watching wrestling, shopping for tailor-made shoes and clothing, and cracked jokes. Her favorite sayings were the Dollar Baller & the Coldessss. She also wore the signature gold tooth in her mouth like her mother, when you see her smile you knew a beautiful poised women was present. She loved to eat good food and listen to music that had meaning. She loved luxury cars and loved to drive fast.
Cheryle’s health declined back in 2000 and in 2009 she was diagnosed with lupus in her lung. Cheryle still tried to maintain and do the best that she could. During this time she was living with and helping her mother who just passed 25 days ago. The day before the Lord called Cheryle home it was a sunny day and she was in a happy place, enjoying the sun, looking good and had a big smile on her face leaving her daughter’s home. Cheryle spoke with her sister (Swana) that night asking her to just be with her. Not knowing that this would be the last time she would talk or be with her family.
Those who preceded Cheryle Lynn Fletcher in death were Manuel L. Williams Jr., Jerl D. Harris (brothers), Rev. M.L. Williams Sr. (father) and Mother Mildred L. Williams.
