his side. He was a lifelong Portland resident.
Claud attended Commerce/Cleveland HS in Portland, where he played football and baseball. Upon leaving HS in 1949 he went to
work for The Hyster Co. as a machinist, where he had risen to be a shop foreman. In 1960 he made a decision to enter the automobile
business. He started as a salesman and quickly became a manager. He worked as General Sales Manager for Joe Fisher Ford until
their closing in 1981. At that time he became an independent auto dealer, in the wholesale end of the business. He was very successful
over the years, but to Claud, his biggest success was the lifelong relationships he built with the people he did business with.
In 1949 he married Elsyann Norgard, and they had three children together; Sherrie, Jeff, and Lee Anne. He married Gena (Nudo) Osborne at the Sellwood Pioneer Church Aug. 4, 1990. Claud was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many. One of the greatest passions of his life was Thoroughbred Horse racing. He owned many over the years and enjoyed it immensely. Claud had many achievements over his life, but was proudest, by far, of his family and the friendships he’s formed over his life. He was always trying to help anyone he knew become a better person. Claud loved meeting his friends for breakfast and lunch at his favorite spot and especially enjoyed the call he would get from one of his closest friends when he couldn’t be there. Claud was also a great patriot; he loved our country with all his heart.
He will be fondly remembered and missed by many friends and colleagues, and is survived by his wife of over 26 years, Gena Cummings of Milwaukie; children, Sherrie Laing and husband Dick of Garden Home, Jeff Cummings and wife Teri of West Linn, Sandra Osborne of San Francisco,
Lee Anne Van Order and husband Bob of Canby, and Gregg Osborne of Portland; a sister, Patricia Stewart of Gresham; grandchildren Lindsay, Brett, and Vanessa; and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Jackson, Isabella, Brett, Jr., Jasmella (Jazzy), and Bretton.
Mr. Cummings’ life will be celebrated at Noon, Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Portland, followed by a reception at Lincoln. Entombment will be private.
The family was grateful for the wonderful care given to Claud by Kaiser Hospice, and would welcome donations in his name to that organization.
