Corey Dean Engel was blessed with a unique ability to express his thoughts and emotions through his art and also by how he lived his life. He was a friend to many and had a knack for thinking outside the box when it came to facing life’s challenges. Corey was born in Kent, Washington and moved down to Portland, Oregon when he was Twelve years old. His parents were Loren and Claire Engel, and he had one twin brother Craig. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1979 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Pacific Northwest’s College of Art. As Corey knew in other aspects of his life, he had a clear vision of what he sought in a relationship and worked hard to achieve it. From this sprung a devoted marriage of twenty eight years to his wife Margaret Engel. Corey also had a special place in his heart for his their cat, Rufus. Corey could be characterized as a creative individual, funny, soft spoken, very intelligent, caring, lover of music, art, animals and someone who understood the importance of life, friendship, and embracing all aspects of it. He was a talented illustrator, and could visualize things that ordinary people could not see. Corey passed away on November 30, 2012 at Portland Providence Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his wife Margaret Engel, mother Claire Engel, his twin Craig Engel, and niece Taylor Engel. Please send tributes and donations in Corey’s name to a charity of your choosing.
