Darlene Harrison of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away December 18, 2016 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 82. She was born Ruth Darlene Harrison in Portland on July 8, 1934 to Otto and Clara (Olstedt) Bolen. She married Keith “W” Harrison on September 2, 1960 in Portland, Oregon.
Darlene loved to golf, bowl, and travel. She was a long time member of the Sunset Lanes Bowling League in Beaverton and, at one time, a member of Meriwether Golf Club in Hillsboro. She was forever seeking the elusive 300 game or hole-in-one. She gave up golf after a battle with breast cancer, but was still bowling in the spring of 2016.
Darlene and Keith took an extended vacation to see the United States in 1993 while Darlene was on sabbatical from Intel where she was a cost analyst. After Keith passed away in 2000, Darlene and her best friend, Harriet Hogg, traveled regularly. Darlene loved to regale us with stories of their antics while visiting the Caribbean, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal.
The family will long remember her treasured collection of frogs, both stuffed and ceramic, her crystal shoes, her love of fine jewelry, her crazy hats, and her inability to throw away anything. She helped the family create cherished memories of weeklong stays at the beach, trips to Disneyland and Alaska, and, most of all, the fun of playing cards and Risk.
Darlene is survived by her brother Don Bolen; sons and daughter-in-laws Paul (Mary Kay) Harrison, Tom (JoAnn) Harrison, Scott (Chantal) Harrison; her grandchildren and their spouses Liz (Traci) Kropf, Sarah Ruiz, Eli (Annie) Harrison, Amy (Mark) Gaffke, Faith Harrison, Nathan Harrison, Lynsey (Jason) Bock, Cole Harrison, Braelyn Harrison; and her great grandchildren Janelle Kropf, Austin Ruiz, Tanner Ruiz, Wyatt Harrison, Adelaide Harrison, Elliot Harrison, Mya Gaffke, and Zachariah Bock. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Otto; her husband, Keith; and her sister-in-law, Jackie Bolen.
Darlene will be privately laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Darlene’s Life will be held at Sonrise Church in Hillsboro on Friday, January 20 at 10:30 am. Memorial contributions can be made to Sonrise Church, 6701 NE Campus Dr, Hillsboro, OR 97124.
