OBITUARY

David Francis Garcia

23 November, 1966 – 25 February, 2022
IN THE CARE OF

Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary & Sunset Hills Memorial Park

It is with much sadness that we share that David Francis Garcia, 55, of Portland, OR passed away from a sudden, unexpected illness on February 25th.

The most important people in David’s life were his family – his beloved wife Ursula and his children, Max and Zoe, of whom he was fiercely proud. His happiest moments were being silly with them, playing (or having played on him) practical jokes, gently teasing one another or simply sharing a meal. He told them every day how much he loved them.

David is deeply missed and will be mourned by family, friends and colleagues around the world. In his 26 years at Intel, David was known for his focus on people – whether coworkers, employees and anyone in his orbit. When talking about David, the word that so many use, over and over again, is kind. He quietly and selflessly would reach out to friends in need, with a warm hug, a funny story or practical help. His wit was legendary, typically delivered with a soft chuckle under his breath.

Outside of his family, David loved being outside and hiking in the Gorge or Forest Park where he spent countless hours doing ivy removal.

Truly a world citizen, David was born in France of Spanish parents. After a stint in England, he moved to South Africa to finish his studies, where he met Ursula. They emigrated to the United States for graduate school at Purdue before Intel brought him to Oregon, where they made their home.

Services will be a private family affair with a celebration of life announced at a later time.

In David’s honor and to celebrate his memory, in Ursula’s words, “please don’t send flowers or cards. Go instead and hug those you love. Go for a walk and enjoy the outdoors. Plant a tree for him if you can. Be as generous and kind-hearted as he always was.”

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.finleysunsethills.com for the Garcia family.
