IN THE CARE OF
Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home
Diane Marie Choate was born May 15, 1949 in Huntington Park, California to Joseph and Irene (Doddridge) Choate, and passed away in Portland on September 8, 2021, at the age of 72. The family moved to Portland when Diane was 17, and she was a graduate of Franklin High School. She worked as an office clerk at Fotomat, Lipman Wolfe & Co., and Reed College, and eventually settled at the Portland Water Bureau, where she worked until 2007. She attended Portland Community College, and earned her B.S. in Human Resources from George Fox University in 1989.
Her interests included needlecraft, beading, painting, shopping (she had many, many shoes), her cats, reading and collecting books and Hallmark ornaments. She also sang in church choirs and was a member of a hand bell choir for a few years. Diane greatly enjoyed leading the Children’s Choir at Lynwood Friends Church for several years. She loved attending church and being with her friends and her family, including trips to Reno to visit her sister’s family.
Diane is survived by her sister Naomi Frazier and husband Cliff, by their daughter Melody Danner and husband Josh, and by their son Ben Frazier and wife Kari. She is also survived by Melody’s children, Diane’s great-niece Hope and great-nephew Jonas, and by a very close friend, Ann Whitacre.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given to Diane in her adult foster home during the last seven years by Violeta Paladiy and her family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 11:00 am at Lynwood Friends Church, 835 SE 162nd Ave, Portland, OR 97233. Following a reception at the church, those who wish may meet by 2:45 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for a 3:00 pm graveside committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in Diane’s name to the Lynwood Friends Twin Rocks Camp Scholarship Fund by writing a check to Lynwood Friends Church with a memo stating “Camp Scholarship Fund”. The church’s address is Lynwood Friends Church, 835 SE 162nd, Portland, OR 97233.
