A private funeral service will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stapleton was born November 2, 1933, in Calico Rock, Arkansas, to Waco and Mary Stapleton. After his father’s death, the family moved to New Mexico and later to Oregon.
In 1953, Mr. Stapleton enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until 1961. He spent time in both France and Germany working in an administrative capacity.
Once back in Oregon, Mr. Stapleton began his 30-year career with the United States Postal Service. During his tenure, he was recognized for several accomplishments, including many safety achievements. Mr. Stapleton retired in 1988 after having accumulated more than 1500 hours of sick time.
Mr. Stapleton did not marry until 2005, when he and his elementary schoolmate, Eleanor Hiatt Fisher, reconnected after 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Eleanor; step-daughters, Susan Walter and Nancy Schifferdecker; four step-grandchildren; sister, Jimmie Rintoul; seven nieces and nephews.
