Pete was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 15th, 1937.
He was married to Lorene Minor on August 21st, 1965; they were married for almost 52 years. To this union, 2 children were born; Edward IV (Eddie) in 1969 and Valerie Yvette in 1971.
Lorene was a dedicated wife and mother- as a wife, she dedicated her entire life to caring for her husband; up until his very last breath. His last words to her were:
“you have been so good to me”.
Pete worked as a Radio DJ for KISN Radio, and as a Chef at the Bohemian Restaurant before retiring as a Nurse for the Portland Veterans Administration after 52 years of service. He enjoyed Golf, playing the piano, singing and dedicating his life of service to his church. He joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in 1969- and dedicated himself to teaching Youth Sunday School for over 40 years; was Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chairman of the Trustee Board and Sunday School Superintendent up until his health took a toll on him.
But through it all, nothing compared to his love for his family:
He dedicated his talents and left his legacy to his grandchildren, by instilling in 2 of them the love of instruments—the desire to play the piano- and the desire to play the guitar-another grandchild he left a legacy -the desire to join the military, and his only boy grandchild he left his name; the last name of Peterson, which will carry on his Legacy.
Pete’s 2 children brought love to the Peterson family through their respective marriages- 3 more grandchildren in Love (Sophia, Camari and Jasmin) – they made his troop complete.
Pete is preceded in death, by his Parents, Edward Peterson II and Corine Peterson, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
He is survived by his only wife of 51 years, Lorene Minor Peterson, his only son, Edward Peterson IV (Jodie Peterson) his only daughter Valerie Yvette Owens (Herman S. Owens Jr.) Grandchildren: Amber Lorene Trimble, Quentin Edward Peterson, Diewo Keita and Madina Keita.
He is survived also by 5 sisters and 1 brother; a host of nieces, nephews brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws and many other family and friends.
Although Pete was very ill, all he wished for, was to be able to see his first great-granddaughter. On April 29th, 2017, his very first great-grand child fought her way into this world early- at 3 lb 11 oz. Later the evening, he was shown video footage of little Baby Aevah Leigh Gardner…. The very next day, he was called home.
Pete left a Legacy that no-one can ever take away-
Rest in Peace,
We love you Daddy-
Eddie and Valerie
YOU have been the true measure of a Man
I will forever love you Pete,
Your wife Lorene
