Elaine Marie Lucas

Elaine Marie Lucas, age 82, of Portland, Oregon joined her beloved Lord in heaven on Wednesday December 18, 2019. Elaine was born May 16, 1937 in Portland, Maine to Mary and Arden Sellick. She was the oldest of six children. Her and her siblings learned a lot of responsibilities at a young age, and often times, Elaine would take on the role of caregiver for the others. Elaine enjoyed her childhood in Maine and attended Portland High School. She met Walter Lucas at a young age and the two were married. The coupled were blessed with two beautiful children. Elaine embraced motherhood and spent her life tending to her children and her home. She kept everything and everyone impeccably neat and organized!

In 1960 Elaine moved to Portland, Oregon to be closer to her siblings. She found a job at Oeco in Milwaukie and worked as an Electronics Technician until her retirement. Elaine became an active and well-loved member of The Four Square Church of Portland. Her Christian faith carried her through life and she made sure to pass along these important values to her children and her siblings.

Elaine always brought her family together; always the host, always making amazing meals. Her fondest memories would have been those spent with everyone together under one roof for the holidays. In her later years, when life slowed down, Elaine enjoyed her daily evening walks with her son. It was a quiet time of reflection for both of them. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

Elaine was known for her amazing cooking and baking. You never left her house hungry. Elaine opened her home and her table to everyone, in fact, there wasn’t a person in the world she wouldn’t open her door and her heart to. She would want to be remembered for her care of others. She had a way of creating a safe space for the people in her life. If someone was down on their luck, Elaine would help anyway she could. She had a heart of gold. Elaine’s legacy of love, faith, and caring for others will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved.

Elaine is survived by; son Rodney Lucas of Portland, Oregon; sisters Ardra Sellick of Portland, Oregon, Nancy Stith of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Carol Holmes of Springfield, Oregon; brothers Arden Sellick of Portland, Oregon and Wesley Sellick of Union, Oregon; granddaughter Christine Edwards of Oregon City, Oregon; as well as 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Tolonen; mother Mary Sellick; and father Arden Sellick.

A visitation for Elaine will be held Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR 97229. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.
