Born in San Francisco in 1923. George worked in Henry Kaiser shipyard after graduation from Commerce High School in 1942. George was drafted into the US Army during World War II. He served on Guadalcanal, South Pacific Theater with the 298th Infantry Regiment from Hawaii.
After the war, George married June in 1946, after knowing her since 1939. They moved to Portland in 1948, because June wanted to be close to her mom in Astoria. George was the Meat Manager for Fred Meyer retiring in 1986, after 27 years of service. Customers said George was always "cutting up".
George had been president of three different dance clubs: Colony, Laurelhurst and Encore, joined the Royal Rosarians in 1992, a great civic-minded organization, who are Goodwill Ambassadors for the City of Portland since 1912. Our favorite saying is "For you a Rose, in Portland grows".
George traveled with June to over 121 countries, starting in 1971. He had covered many countries from A to Z. Africa to Zambia. In every country, the common people are basically the same in their wants; a roof over their head, clothes on their backs, food in their stomachs and a job to help provide for it.
George had a very good life, and a very good wife. His proudest and happiest moment was celebrating his 50th Wedding Anniversary with his friend on August 11, 1996.
