Always a happy and helpful child, she enjoyed helping her grandmother in the kitchen and playing in the garden. A self-professed "Tom-boy", she would brag about the time she captured a snake to spare her horrified big sister.
In 1942, she and her family relocated to the Vanport area of Portland, OR. Gloria attended Roosevelt High School, where she played football! and discovered her love of nursing.
In 1954, she met and married Jon T. Hall and their first child, Daryle Tyrone soon followed in March 1955. In April 1957, just two days after her 20th birthday, her beloved daughter, Jarvina Angela was born. Gloria would proudly tell any and everyone that she birthed 2 children but she raised 8. Gloria's tremendous love of family and stability for children was evident.
In the 1950's, Gloria joined Vancouver Avenue 1st Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. O.B. Williams. Gloria served endlessly in church; singing in the choir, on the Nurses Auxiliary, as treasurer and as a Sunday School Teacher.
It was also in the 1950's that Gloria first began working for St. Vincent's Hospital (currently known as Providence St. Vincent's Medical Center) in SW Portland. She retired after 48 years of outstanding and dedicated service in 1999.
In the 1960's, Gloria decided to learn how to prepare taxes and she was a natural. Until her formal retirement form tax consulting as well in 2013, she had clients that had been with her for over 50 years.
Gloria was not all business though, she loved having a good time with family and friends, water aerobics, shopping, watching sports, and TRAVELING. She was the ultimate BOSS! Taking care of her mother and little sister until her own health no longer permitted.
Gloria's greatest love and most important ministry was being a grandmother. Gloria was exceptional in everything but her dedication, loyalty and faithfulness with her grandchildren was phenomenal. Gloria was inclusive, anyone could be her child or grandchild, if you needed a grandma she was there.
On May 20th, 2015, Gloria was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gloria was preceded in death by her father Ike Edwards, brother Cleveland, sisters: Lorene, Ika, Lizzie and Edwina. Gloria leaves her mother Viola Horsley, birth children Daryle T Hall and Angela Hall-Green, son in law Leslie Green, adopted children Matrice Sayles and Willie Jones; grandchildren Azelle Hall, LaQuasha Hall Thompson, LaSeda Thompson, LaMarr Thompson and Veronica Jones; great-grandchildren Na'Zyia Thompson and LaMarri Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
