Born in Kulm, N.D., to loving parents Olga and Victor Ostrom, Gloria was gifted with an energetic personality and a keen sense of style. She moved to Gresham, Ore., and attended Gresham High School, where she met the love of her life, Frank Newell. They were married in 1954. Gloria was an executive secretary for several years at the United States District Attorney's office in Portland, Ore. Later, she stayed busy raising a family and volunteered for several charitable organizations. She and Frank loved wintering at their Indian Wells, Calif., home, and you would always find Gloria on the golf course enjoying a round of golf with friends or competing in a ladies' golf tournament. She was an excellent hostess and was famous for her delicious beef stroganoff.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 2013. Survivors include daughter Jayne Newell of Indian Wells, Calif.; son Clint (Carol) Newell of Roseburg, Ore.; granddaughter Missoni Lanza of Indian Wells, Calif.; grandson Tim Lanza of Denver, Colo.; grandson Cameron Newell of Roseburg, Ore.; and grandson Connor Newell of Bend, Ore.
Burial will be private. In November, a Celebration of Life will be held at Desert Horizons Country Club, Indian Wells, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria's memory may be made to Animal Samaritans (www.animalsamaritans.org) or the organization of your choice.
