

Harry Clark was born Nov. 5th 1930 To Fred and Katherine Clark in The Dalles, Oregon. He rode a horse to the one room school and graduated from Dufur H.S. In 1948 Where he played 8 Man Football (Go Rangers!). After Graduation he went to work for his Father at the Lumber Mill that the Family owned in Tygh Valley. (Clark Mill road is still there.) In 1951 Harry was drafted into the Army at the start of the Korean War. When asked what he was interested in, Harry said that he knew Heavy Equipment. That led to Fort Hood Texas for Basic and A.I.T. at the Home of the 3rd Armored Corp. Yes, Harry was in Heavy Equipment, he was sent to Korea as a Tank Commander in Support in support of the 25th Infantry Division. He spent a Year in Constant Combat and saw much death and destruction. He rose through the ranks and finished his service as a SFC and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in Battle. His Company Commander did not want Harry to leave at the end of his tour of duty and offered him a battlefield commission to Officer. But Harry had seen enough, and it was time to return to civilian life. After returning home, Harry married Shirley and together they raised four children, Larry, Cindy, Kenny & Karen. Harry went to work for his Uncle Johnny as an Electrician Apprentice, which began seventy plus years as a Proud Member of the IBEW. Together, along with his cousin Don, they wired Hospitals, Schools, Restaurants, Office Buildings and Private Residences. Harry was an Electrician for over 40 Years. In 1969 Harry married the love of his life, Maxine, and together they spent 37 years until her passing in 2006. That union also brought together several step-children, Karen, Craig, Steve, Deanna and Ed. All Of whom had the greatest respect and admiration for this wonderful man. Harry was very involved in the American Legion. He was Post Adjutant for many years and also served as Post Commander, Vice Commander, and District 7 Commander, which entails dozens of Posts in the N.W. Corner of Oregon. He and Maxine attended Annual Conventions around the State and occasionally National Conventions around the Country. After Retirement they bought a Beach house In Rockaway Beach, OR. They spent a lot of time enjoying the small friendly town vibe. Retirement kept him busy with two properties to maintain and serving as the Do-Everything Handyman at his Church. Harry was always available to anyone who needed his help. Even after suffering from Spinal Stenosis and being confined to a wheelchair, he never lost his positive outlook and friendly demeanor. Harry passed away January 4th 2026 in Portland, OR with several loved ones around him. He was proceeded in Death by his wife Maxine, children Cindy, Kenny and Karen, step-son Craig and his precious kitties! 💙♥️❤️💕 He is survived by his Son Larry and his stepchildren, numerous Grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
