Hugh Henry Kalani was born and passed away in Portland, Ore. He grew up in NW Portland and went on to join the Navy. Later he attended both the University of Portland and Portland State University. He met and dated Ramona Falk for three years until the two married and had three children together.
Hugh had a successful career with Clackamas County, starting out as a Surveyor and eventually working his way up to Road Superintendent. After thirty years of employment, Hugh retired from the county, but he continued to keep himself busy by sitting on the Greater Portland Soccer League Board and the Clackamas River Water Board. For thirty years, he was on the Board for Clackamas Credit Union.
There was never a boring moment in Hugh’s life. In his spare time he enjoyed participating in many activities. You could find him playing soccer through the Greater Portland Soccer League’s 50 and older group, exercising at the gym, or even skydiving with his grandsons! He had a passion for airplanes, liked camping and absolutely adored his family. Hugh will be remembered as a quiet, contemplative man. He was friendly, kind and well-liked.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Ramona Kalani; daughter, Laura and husband Dave Bateman; son, Henry Kalani, grandsons: Kyle David Bateman and Jace Henry Bateman and cousins: Tommy, Alice and Linda. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Kalani, who passed away in 1987.
