James was born to Paul and Kathleen DeSantis on February 15, 1982, in Van Nuys, CA. He grew up as the eldest of three children in the town of Wawona in Yosemite National Park. He attended a one-room school, and spent his time climbing rocks, building dams in the river, and using his creative mind to organize adventures with his friends in town. He later attended San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, CA and Fresno City College. When he was 19 years old, he became clean and sober and continued to practice the 12 steps the rest of his life.
James had many interesting jobs and adventures, including traveling to Southeast Asia, the inspiration for many of his stories. Along with being known for his story telling, he was most known for being a loyal and supportive friend, available day and night to listen and lend a hand when needed.
Among his many gifts, the most important to him was being a great father. James used his patience, vivid imagination, and childlike enjoyment of play to connect with his children and enrich their lives. These gifts spilled over into his relationships with friends and family.
His creativity and mechanical aptitude translated into his career as a field service technician for a medical supply company. James was grateful to have a career that allowed him to be on the front lines during this crisis, to help hospitals and patients. His drive to be of service left an imprint on the lives of everyone who met him. James will be missed by many.
James is survived by his sons, Shamus and Jack, and stepson Chance; his partner Aimee Palomino and her children Felix and Lola; his siblings Michael and Bridget; his parents; his aunts, Mary DeSantis and Bridget Riley Clark; and his uncle, Kevin Riley, as well as his many cousins and his countless friends. #Scoutmaster #FYSS
