Jan Wallace Yost, 78, of Newberg, Oregon, passed away on August 24, 2025. Born in Portland, Oregon at Emanual Hospital. He grew up in southwest Portland with his parents Wallace and Jane and his older sister Susan. He graduated Wilson High School’s class of 1965, then attended Portland State and University of Oregon. He started his career as the shop kid at his father’s truck dealership. He worked his way up, learning all aspects of the business under the leadership and guidance of his dad.
Wallace passed down and instilled in Jan a deep sense of responsibility to the business, community and all the wonderful employees that made DSU the great family business it was. When Jan took over the company after his father retired, he led the company with unflappable integrity, hard work and pride till he retired at the age of 73.
Jan was full of energy and grew up an avid outdoors man. He was a firearms enthusiast and award-winning marksman from a young age and loved spending his free time hunting, fishing and camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. He loved working with his hands and possessed great talent for building things, taking on projects around the house and for fun. One of Jan’s deepest passions was for muscle cars, racing and all things fast. When he was younger, he was into enduro racing in lay down go carts, years later he took up circuit and drag racing. He had a ‘69 Camaro for the circuit racing and a ‘67 Nova that he dragged and could often be found spectating and racing at Woodburn Drag Strip. Whenever he was tinkering away in his shop there was always a race or an auto auction on TV.
In 1972 Jan met Dale Andrews through a mutual friend and after a 2 year courtship they were married. They welcomed their son Andrew Wallace in 1976 and in 1979 had twin daughters Kelley Dale and Kristi Jan. Tragically Kristi passed away at just three weeks old. They got through this heartbreaking time surrounded by loving friends and family.
Throughout their 50 years together, Jan & Dale had many adventures traveling, playing bunco with friends and spent as much time as they could at the Coast in Seaside Oregon and Long Beach Washington, enjoying sunsets and participating in the annual End of the World Rod Run with the Camaro and Dale’s prized 1939 Chevy. They spent the last 25 years in Newberg, appreciating the quiet pace of life in wine country.
Jan lived a blessed life surrounded by loved ones, touching the hearts of everyone that knew him, a true friend, son, brother, partner and father.
