John Lloyd Lee was born on January 22, 1943 in Brooklyn, Maryland. He passed away in Portland, Oregon on December 19, 2020 at the age of 77. He attended James Madison High School in Portland, Oregon. During his high school years, he was the manager of the football team. He went on to graduate from high school in the year of 1960.
A couple days after graduating high school he entered into the United State Air Force. During his career in 1961-1962 he was a radio station DJ while he was in Turkey. He was deployed for three separate tours in the Vietnam war. His first two tours he was a forward air controller. His third tour he was a B-52 tail gunner. John attended State University of New York and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in History. He ran his own TV business while stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. While he was stationed in Guam, John was a cab driver and worked in the airline catering business. During his career, John was able to visit every continent but two. He had orders to go to Antarctica and flew over Australia. He served our country for 21 years and retired as a tech sergeant.
After his military career, he went to work for the Department of Energy at Bonneville Power Administration as a computer programmer. During the early 80’s he attended Portland Community College and graduated with his Associates in computer science. John retired after 23 years.
During his civilian career he was a campground caretaker for seven years at the Community of Christ Lewis River Campground in Washington state.
John also volunteered with several organizations. He was involved in cub scouts and boy scouts from 1983-2004. For Pier Park Little League, he was an umpire, safety officer and helped with concessions. He was president of his bowling league. John volunteered his time to help with concessions at Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon for various sports. For the last 20 years, he ran the football clock for all levels of football at Battleground High School. In 2019 – 2020, John held the position of vice chair for the St. Johns Neighborhood Association.
John’s interests and hobbies included, reading, logic problems, jigsaw puzzles, building Legos, bowling, camping, playing pinochle and cribbage. He enjoyed music from the 50’s, 60’s, early 70’s, along with country western. He enjoyed going to antique and collectible shows. John enjoyed traveling and his all-time favorite location was the island of Guam. Later in his life, his really enjoyed taking his dog Holly to the dog park.
John’s brother Doug and stepson, David preceded him in death.
John is survived by his wife, Bernadine

There will be a service held to celebrate his life on March 1, 2021 at 11:30am at Willamette National Cemetery 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Happy Valley, OR 97086
This will be an outdoor event where masks will be required.
