Junhi attended Seoul University and immigrated to the United States in 1962, where he married his loving wife of 56 years, Haesoon “Soonie” Hong, in Chicago. Junhi received his MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He went on to a distinguished career as a civil engineer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. After retirement, at the age of 65, Junhi furthered his education by receiving an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Oregon Institute of Technology.
Junhi will be forever remembered for his unconditional love for his family and for Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. Those he encountered will fondly recall his eagerness to give, playful sense of humor, enjoyment of the outdoors, determination, and intellectual curiosity.
Preceded in joining the Lord: mother & father Wonsik Hong and Duck Yoon Lee; brother Chun Hee Hong.
Survived by: son John Kichul Hong; daughter Karole Kiyung Hong Wilson; daughter-in-law Grace Sohyon Park Hong; grandchildren James, Abby, Luke, and Kate; sisters Myung Hee Hong, Gae Hee Hong; He is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
