Kathleen was born in Durant, Oklahoma, to Obia and Johnnie Turner. During World War II she worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Oklahoma for over a year before joining the U.S. Women's Army Corps (WAC). First, Kathleen worked in motor transport driving all types of U.S. Army vehicles. Later, Kathleen was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
After her discharge from the WAC, Kathleen remained in Washington, D.C., working for the U.S. government. There she met her future husband, William J. Goodwin. They went on to attend Oklahoma State University together and she graduated in 1949. Kathleen received her Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from American University in 1972. She was an accomplished artist in watercolor, oils, and stained glass.
Kathleen was dedicated to the members of her family and always enjoyed spending time with them. Kathleen and Bill lived in Oklahoma; New York; Maryland; Virginia; Washington, D.C.; South Carolina; Texas; Oregon; Libya; and Haiti. Bill was a United States public health service officer and together they had the opportunity to travel in 34 countries.
Kathleen raised two children, James A. Goodwin and Susie O'Day. James preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Bill; daughter, Susie; grandchildren, who she loved dearly, Katie O'Day, Megan O'Day, Daphne Goodwin, and Chad Goodwin.
A memorial service is being held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 in Skyline Memorial Gardens.
