Kristine was born on July 20, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Swend and Edna Nelson. Over the course of her life, she built a large and loving family and found joy in the simplest pleasures.
A spirited and giving woman, Kristine volunteered with Meals on Wheels up until the time of her passing. She had a deep love for her community, calling Bingo after preparing meals and then spending hours playing Mexican Train dominoes with friends. She loved to visit local lighthouses and museums, whale watch from coastal restaurants, and to work on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She often watched Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, and liked visiting casinos, saying, “You win some, you lose some.” Her favorite meal was biscuits and gravy, and she often ate at Hilltop, Dory Cove, and Surfriders.
She is survived by her children James, Paul, Anthony, Elizabeth, Veronica, and Joseph Landry; her stepchildren Terry Carpenter and Kenneth Huggins; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Huggins; her stepchildren Sharon and Bobby Jr.; and her granddaughter, Mandi Good.
An intimate graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 1:45 p.m. at Willamette Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. A celebration of life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at the Newport Senior Center in Newport, Oregon.
Kristine will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
