The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend far too soon. Linda Sue Thompson, lovingly known as “Nana” and “Grammy” to her cherished grandchildren. Succumbed to her numerous health issues at the age of 76, Linda passed on December 21, 2024. Linda was born on March 1, 1948, in Portland, Oregon, to Roberta and Eldon Barry. Linda attended and graduated from David Douglas High School, in Portland, Oregon. Shortly after graduating, she married and began the journey that would become her life’s greatest pride and joy, raising her four children with boundless love and devotion.
Linda was a selfless woman whose life was defined by service to others. Her career paths were as varied as her talents; yet they all shared a common thread—helping those in need. From nurturing young children, which allowed her to care for her own family at home, to fitting hearing aids for the elderly so they could rediscover the beautiful sounds of the world. Linda brought joy and comfort wherever she went. Linda also opened her heart and home to individuals with developmental disabilities, welcoming them as cherished members of her family. To so many, she was simply known as “Mom.”
Linda found happiness in the simple joys of life. She loved gardening, whether planting flowers herself or watching others bring her garden to life. Linda delighted in cooking and collecting recipes, always ready to try something new, though she often relied on her “24-hour cook,” Jen, for culinary support. Above all, Linda was a kind, strong, and beautiful soul who gave her all to everything she touched.
She is survived by her loving family:
• Her sister, Joanne Gordy,
• Her husband, Gary;
• Her niece, Crissy Smith and husband, Tristan; great niece Lilly
• Her children: Scott and his wife, Letty Thompson; daughters Amy Thompson; Jennifer Thompson her fiancé, Kyle Osborn; Karen Thompson Majesky her husband, Thomas Majesky; her beloved boys, Cory and Michael.
• Her grandchildren: Alyssa, her husband JJ, Sara, Riley, Katherine, Madison, Thomas, Christian, and Jacob, who lovingly called her “Nana” and “Grammy”;
• Her two grand-dogs, KC and Gus. Linda’s great-grand-dogs, Delilah, and Sophie.
Linda’s loss leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts, but her legacy of compassion and kindness will live on in all who knew her.
A celebration of Linda’s life will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home located at 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd on December 27, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A family chapel service and inurnment ceremony will be held in June to allow loved ones from near and far to gather and honor her memory together.
Linda was truly one of a kind, and her love will remain in our hearts as a guiding light for all of us to carry forth.
