Marc Leon passed away of prostate cancer on November 23, 2018 in Portland, OR. He was born on May 19, 1941 in Pittsburg, PA to Louis and Lela Leon (Laepse). When Marc was five, he and his family moved to Bakersfield, CA where he spent his childhood, eventually graduating from Bakersfield High School. After high school, Marc served in the United States Air Force for four years. Later he went on to get a degree in math and computer science, one from Fresno State and the other Portland State. After college, he married Elisa Cole on August 13, 1977 and they remained married until his death.
Marc had many hobbies and passions, one of them being the outdoors. He was an avid rock and mountain climber, you could find him hiking around Mt. St. Helens during the summer, he even climbed to the top of Mt. Hood! He taught himself how to ski and enjoyed doing cross country and downhill aspects of the sport. He also loved to snow shoe. When he wasn’t doing something outside, Marc spent his downtime reading and it became one of his favorite things to do to relax. Relaxing was something he found in travelling, more specifically taking cruises. He and Elisa went on many of them, going to places such as Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, the Galapagos Islands and even Antarctica! In addition to his love of travelling, he excelled at dancing, learning to become a great ballroom dancer. He was a beloved member of the Mac Club and the Oregon Nordic Club.
Survivors in include his wife Elisa; a daughter Amie Leon; his sister, Michele Scharmach and many other family members and dear friends.
